Mari Cody, Project Director: Celebrating 15 Years with Morningside
We are pleased to announce that Mari Cody, Project Director of Person to Person
Services, recently celebrated her 15th anniversary working for Morningside. Mari
began working as a Senior Training Specialist within the microfilm area of the
old sheltered workshop. The next year she became the Transition Coordinator for
North Thurston and Tumwater High Schools. It was this position that truly opened
her eyes to the idea and belief that everyone should have the opportunity to
work within their community. After several years in this position, Mari then
expanded her skills by becoming the Sheltered Workshop Supervisor. In this
position, she oversaw all the commercial contracts. Over time and after
attending a conference in Arizona, she played a key role in laying the
groundwork to close the sheltered workshop, which was accomplished with much
effort in 2004. This was a major success for Morningside to have all of its
clients working in the community.
In 2005 Washington State’s services changed as the State mandated The Working Age
Adult Policy. This change in service, led to a change in job duties, once again,
for Mari as she was asked to develop and implement the new Person to Person
Services, with the title of Project Director. This is the position she currently
serves in and works with the most severely disabled clients. Mari says, “There
have been many exciting and challenging times through the years. She has been
lucky to have the support of Jim and Cindi as they allowed her to take chances
and make changes, while working towards assisting individuals realize their
dreams & goals of community employment.” Congratulations on your 15 years Mari
and thank you for your dedication to Morningside and its clients!
